Serves as a Financial Aid Counselor and assists applicants on all aspects of financial aid. Responsible for counseling students about the financial aid process, aid sources, eligibility requirements and satisfactory academic progress. Responsible for the processing applications for federal student loans and verification of financial aid files. During busy seasons helps with the importing and processing of federal aid records and packaging student aid awards.
- Counsels students on all aspects of financial aid and satisfactory academic progress including minimum completion rate, length of eligibility, grade point average, probation and the appeals process. Assists students with completion and evaluation of the FAFSA and other required documents. Promotes excellent customer service by assisting visitors to the office, answering phone calls, and responding to emails.
- Manages the student loan program including counseling, tracking, certification, entrance and exit interviews, and reconciling. Coordinates the certification process and manages the S.C. Teacher Loan and private loan programs.
- Responsible for file processing and verification for an assigned student population.
- Helps manage the importing and processing of Institutional Student Information Records (ISIR) from Federal Student Aid (FSA) during peak processing seasons. Ensures students are notified of documents/information needed to complete their financial aid file. Packages all complete financial aid files and notifies students of their financial aid awards.
- Manages the College's default management program to include skip tracing assistance, pre-claims assistance and intervention, and financial literacy.
- Prepares and presents financial aid and financial literacy sessions to interested groups, students, parents, faculty and staff. Coordinates events that market and publicize financial aid.
Bachelor’s degree and financial aid experience.
Bachelor's degree in related area plus one or more years of experience in student financial aid, higher education (administration type position), or loan processing preferred. Although not exhaustive, work experience in the following areas is highly valued: financial aid services, mortgage broker, financial services / lending.
Extra hours may be required during peak enrollment periods. Travel may be required to attend seminars and training opportunities.
